Does anyone know of a program that would allow me to count the number of rings on a piece of wood?

I have some old-growth redwood I'd like to know the age of.

I know that you could do it using IRAF

The dendrochronology lab at the University of Arizona used IRAF for that purpose a couple decaes ago. Iraf is packed to the gills with routines for modeling and counting lines and dots on images, but they're annoying and difficult to access because its mostly a command line program and the documentation isn't all that good.
