Last I checked, topology allows us to model out the shape of thermal conduction(over time) through a material, which then allows us to engineer the material in such a way as to mitigate stresses associated with thermal expansion/contraction via doping/alloys.
I'm pretty sure everything from turbine blades to nuclear reactor vessels benefit from the topology in question.
