And by research I don't mean googling 10 minutes, I mean going out of your way and ask people who have been there and done that, actually take some time to read books and related material and study slowly the curriculum, then think if this is actually what you want or maybe you could use something else like for instance: chemical engineering might have some masters in your particular area of interest and be more marketable in case things don't go as planned. Then do a through study of the market. Which local companies need bioengineers? Would you need to move out? What are the working conditions? Try to apply there already (maybe as a cleaner). Finally if you do decide to continue, please, try to find an internship as soon as you start your first semester.
However if you are rich you can ignore all this bullshit and study whatever you want. 19 century style.
