Which covid vaccine is the less harmful long term? Basically as close to placebo as possible. I've heard that the sino-vac is basically a placebo shot should I go with that?

If exposing your body to a viral protein is going to have long term health effects, then being infected by that virus which will expose your body to many more of that same protein for a longer time AND make you sick is going to have those same effects, but worse.

Beyond that if you want a crash course on immunology, molecular biology and virology, there's no shortage of resources.

Interesting, apparently it's in Phase III. The trial looks tiny though, 4k people, and they only have one manufacturing plant atm. Doesn't sound like it's going to be widely available, even if it is safe and effective.

Traditional vaccines are impractical in a pandemic as they are:
- Slower to build up immunity and less effective (that's a health meme but economically significant), society needs something to kick like a horse to interrupt spread immediately and restart the economy (individual life or long term consequences people mention here are really irrelevant in this frame of reference, you need economy/food to live too)
- More expensive to produce, making them slower to deliver, again affecting the rate of reopening.
