whats even more cringe is that the people who publish sound solutions to the galactic rotation issue in academic journals are willfully ignored by the harvard-MIT astronomy mafia. i read an article by an iranian astronomer 15 years ago who solved the issue easily in a few paragraphs, less than a page, just by including the effect of hubble expansion into standard gravity.

A local maximum of correctness. It is a "maximum" because it can't get better due to being a fundamentally flawed dead end. It is a "local" maximum because it is less correct than whatever the correct theory is. It currently appears more correct than the better theory because of the imaginary stuff that's added to it to make it work. Kinda like how Ptolemy's epicycles gave a more precise view of the solar system than heliocentrism for a while because it was more well developed despite being a dead end.

There are some reasons to think that it's the theory rather than missing stuff. The fact that galaxy rotation and wide binary rotation and literally everything else that involves very low levels of acceleration changes behavior at exactly the point where acceleration dips to 2c^2/SizeOfUniverse is very peculiar. Also the fact that acceleration curves of galaxies correspond exactly to the distribution of visible matter doesn't really jive with the theory of diffuse dark matter causing the rotation.
