Why study chemistry at university? Physics would be a far better choice since it gives you much more rigourous math skills which employers really like.

I was in an Elite high school, Olympiads and shit.
Best ones went for Math Olympiad, bit less gifted for Physics, even less for Chemistry/Biology.

t. one who did Physics Olympiad among some less important contests for inventions.

Worthless anecdotes about highschool level science regurgitation machines have nothing to do with the difficulty of chemistry or physics. It has to do material that makes for decent competition fodder.
Chemistry and physics as subjects are difficult in orthogonal ways. This becomes very obvious the further you go on and immediately when you hit pchem.

Olympiad stuff isn't high school grade. It's more equivalent to first 2-3 semesters of undergrad. I'm currently studying Aerospace Engineering (second semester as for now) and most of the Calculus, Thermodynamics, Physics and Mechanics was the same stuff I've already learned for Physics Olympiad. As a high schooler I went for many local University classes for Physics students and got basically the same observations - material for Olympiad mimics the stuff done in first 2-3 semesters of undergrad course (and therefore they were great to learn from, as I couldn't afford any private classes as my peers did).

Tough worth noting is that I'm an eurofag, maybe your Olympiads are dumbed down for national levels for whatever reasons and really are more based on high school program.

There are way more chemistry jobs than physics jobs. However I agree physics gives you more useful skills for getting into tech shit, although a chemist could also acquire those skills if they were so inclined.

Because you can declare a double major and if you are not poor and/or american, you could easily just do chem+math or even chem+math+phys.

I am not american so my education is dirt cheap, I am consequently simply studying as a hobby and I will not be getting a job post graduation, I will simply blow my head off with a shotgun.

UK fag here. Got silver in physics Olympiad. Utter waste of time. Didn't even help me get into a better university. Years ago now of course.

And no. It really is just high school physics (e.g. Snell's law), with maybe some general knowledge thrown in. But it's more worthless than that. Basically, if you need to have a teacher that can be bothered to invest the time you can take the Olympiad. It's still spoonfed 'tricky' questions that simply require you to have seen something similar. No original thought required. Hence school level knowledge.
