Unfortunately for him, university boards are often controlled by business and other non-academic elite types, who he doesn't like because their interests are in conflict with his own.
He calls business types right-wing because he and other academics universally hate right-wing politics, so he's rhetorically trying to direct the same hate towards his class enemies.
AKS doesn't actually care whether you read Marx or Friedman, as long as you don't want to fire him or his academic friends.
