but in my shithole of a country I got told by so many people that math is cold and rigid
but it's very fun to explore actually
wish I wasn't called a moron every time I tried to derive things on my own
I was lucky when someone told me that I have a rare talent because I enjoy deriving things but that I need to study the basics more, and that's when I changed I really started enjoying math
so, of course, I agree that without knowing the basics you're gonna have a very, very hard time (I was autistically writing like 10 pages of derivation trying to reach formulas during tests and that's why I kept getting low marks)
but other people told me that what I was doing (trying to understand, derive and explore) is total bullshit and not "the way"
actually, both are necessary (understanding AND memorization)
but I wish everyone know that BOTH are good
that was why I was disagreeing
and if you're good at one, you can learn the other (a mentor can help, a lot)
some people are great at memorization, but need to be told to also UNDERSTAND
some people are great at understanding, but need to be told to also MEMORIZE
