I've been working for an agriculture company and they have digital products to help farmers apply less fertilizer using satelite images.
This software gets satelite image from a public source and apply a filter to determine the development of a crop field. It updates every 3 days and it is able to zoom a lot, so you can see even details.
I'm wondering -- can't you use this type of technology to scan forests and plantations to find unusual NDVI spots (aka coke/pot farming)?
