Wearing a well fitted cloth mask over a surgical mask reportedly boosts filtration to about 80%, compared to 40% or less for a surgical mask alone. So there's a fairly significant rise in efficacy. That said, how much it would actually reduce infection is unknown. Inhaling 200 viral particles should be better than inhaling 1000 particles, but if 100 particles causes infection, then you're still going to get infected. The infection may be milder however.

No one knows. Pfizer and Moderna would like frequent boosters for obvious reasons, but efficacy will dictate whether it's necessary, and immunity from the vaccines still seems to be pretty good at six months.

Source on this? Empirically, wearing a single mask is pretty effective at preventing transmission.

I was pulling the numbers from the study I posted here >>13165462, though my memory was slightly off. I've seen wildly different figures for surgical masks alone, I suspect because for some people they form a fairly snug fit, and for others they're like a parachute. Just go with a decent N95, KN95, or KF94.

Of course it's real. Masks are just an exercise in compliance. You could make a single mask with twice the thickness but you still see NASA staff triple masking for the cameras on PR events. These are people who can land on mars yet they can't produce a mask that doesn't need to be doubled or tripled.
Everyone who wants continued funding is onboard with the compliance and propaganda.
Making you face cloth harder to push air through is only going to increase the chance of blowing your breath directly out the sides where it doesn't seal, right into the person next to you.
Something about this virus and the current commodity shortage just doesn't add up. We are being fucked with.
First they said we'd still need a mask after being vaccinated, then after realizing more than half the population is not as brain dead as they thought, they have started ramping up incentives and propaganda for their vaccines, like not having to wear masks or even receiving things, from a free donut to a chance at a 1 million dollar prize.
