Theres a reason why people get quiet and reserved when they're focused. Its because they're literally generating less personality and character and only working on the problem at hand. You are your brain and it is you.
Its the same person controlling the same body, it just doesn't feel special or anything. Just wiggle your fingers and stare at them, try to feel you processing those movements. Its hard, its almost like you aren't in control of it, rather they just move. And yet if you focus you can control your fingers so precisely without having to even remotely think about what you're doing at all. Hell im doing it right now by typing.
We're not born with a full understanding of ourselves. It only seems like you're a person in a person because you don't actually realize all of the shit you actually do.
