>>13158667Light colored eyes is a mutation with an evolutionary advantage: it reveals changes in pupil diameter which allows for better nonverbal communication. Look up 'involuntary pupillary response'. It is why asians have historically been generalized as being inscrutable, quite literally it is hard to figure out what they're thinking about what you are saying, because you can't see their pupils expand when you say something they like and contract when you say something they don't. In a species that must communicate to survive, thrive, and succeed where others fail, a variation that enhances communication can only be helpful.
Another thing to think about here is skin color, unfortunately. Do we make our speed limit signs dark brown with black letters? No we do not. Asians have high-contrast eyebrows vs skin color, so they can easily communicate with facial expressions, but only caucasians have both the light colored irises and high contrast eyebrows that help communicate. It's also easier to recognize light-skinned faces that you know, especially in low light conditions and over longer distances. I find myself having to look at a given black guy for over a second to see if I recognize him, which is well into the territory of being a challenge. We're primates, eye contact is a challenge. These are real, measurable biological issues that we're fighting against while trying to hold together western society, but nobody ever talks about these things.
