Whats wrong with elite universities?

Everytime i talk to someone from these institutions i feel like i am talking to a seriously depressed person, not i way that they cry about life, but in a way that they seem to have long term respons to anything. It's like they are completly dead and have no personality or goals left. You wonder if there is still anything inside them that says "hei i want that and that"
