10m diameter primary mirror space telescope now in engineering stage, assembly may start as soon as 2025.

It's quite the behemoth, for comparison, JWST is 6.5m diameter.

Interesting solution to assemble the mirrors in space externally via robotic arm. Certainly you can make a bigger mirror via this way than the Hubble way

Acctually, the key here is that the in-orbit assembly procedure can be used in the future to build space-ships in orbit as well.

I can imagine China constructing their manned spacecraft for their Mars mission in that way.

In any case, it looks like their moon mission will use their space station as "pit stop".

Not going to happen anytime soon, certainly not 2025. Probably not before 2030+ at least. Don't confuse proposals with plans.

The current large Chinese space astronomy project is the Chinese Space Station Telescope. CSST is a 2 meter off-axis telescope with a very large field of view visible imager. CSST is China's first proper space telescope, and it's schedule is highly uncertain but a launch is expected around 2025.

It's fucking nothing. Engineering departments make pie in the sky studies like this all the time. NASA also "studied" a 16 meter telescope using in-space assembly, it doesn't mean they're actually considering it.

Don't pull made up statistics out of your ass. Look at the poster no CAS, no NAOC, no CNSA, i.e. no government endorsement. Chinese astronomy projects have a long history of going nowhere fast. Take the Large Optical-Infrared Telescope for example, 5 years later the engineers are still fighting over the optical design.

This study was a joint Chinese-UK one, it was announced in 2017. Why have you heard literally nothing about it in those 4 years? Because it was just a concept which went no further. Compare it to the real project, CSST, which has papers, talks and even images of prototype hardware.
