Why do certain things taste good?

I just had some salt on a Mexican lime and it tasted fantastic, but why? Why, scientifically, did it taste better than other things do?

I don't know but my best guess is that it's just the combination of things your body needs, with lime and salt you're obviously getting a lot of vitamin C, which your brain might detect from the citrus taste, plus salt, or with pb&b the fats and potassium, but I have no clue about the inner mechanisms of this.
