If you want to understand what reality consists of, I suggest reading Stephen Hawking's A Brief History of Time.
It's an amazing entrypoint into the world of both general relativity and quantum mechanics.

But there is! In agreement with previous posts there's a few books. It's not about teaching (OP)Anon. You can't force a horse to drink. You can only it to the trough. But the trick is to just make the horse thirsty. Awake curiosity and anon will take care of the rest. An engaging book will do more towards teaching him than a thousand textbooks about proper scientific rigor and mathematical exercises. Remember OP is a brainlet. We're not to teach him, were to teach him to care and seek.

I haven't read Sudbery's Quantum mechanics for mathematicians but iirc it assumes no physics knowledge. It does assume math knowledge but it might still be more approachable than Penrose.
