like to my understanding, blood and soil is pretty legitimate. im beginning to think blood is what you could call "living soil" in another form

Isn't that the point of cemetaries? I can't just bury grandpa behind my neighbor's shed, I have to pay thousands of dollar americain to bury him on a tiny plot of land and after 10-20 years they dig him back up and sell his spot to someone else.

Why would we force this system upon ourselves if there were no good reasons? At some point civilization decided that you cannot have a grave anywhere you want. And that your grave isn't even yours because we're that limited and just don't have the space to spare. Why else would we rotate burial plots every 2 decades? Surely people would like to have their own graves.

it's a cultural thing, most likely. there's no functional reason to have cemetaries the way that we do. we would be better off decomposing the bodies as quickly as possible from a nutritional perspective, but there's a cultural standard in the west to treat death the way that we do.
