>>13149219That is probably the case if you are doing research, but if you are just taking classes, pure math can be very beautiful and enlightening. This is especially the case when you take intro courses in fields that are new to you. The first classes you take in number theory, graph theory, and abstract algebra are some of the coolest things in the world when you learn them for the first time.
Even in research, although you can easily get bogged down in the details of proving what may be a niche result, there is still satisfaction in knowing that you are discovering something about math that no one has every known before. At the end of the day, I think that still beats working in industry.
