So what does /sci/ think about the removal of the SAT from college admissions? Will the UC system become a laughing stock? Rival universities committing suicide is a good thing for me i suppose.

All this means is that grades and high school reputation will be even larger determinants.

iirc, California has banned the use of race in the admission process.

yes, but this will displace even more smarties than normal, creating a lower equilibrium. hopefully, what happens is that smart sudents will simply migrate away from california and goto other Unis. and the UC system's reputation will collapse, and california generally will accelerate faster toward 3rd world status.
