Small explenation. Rbiosomes 'read' mRNA to make proteins. There proteins are viral antigen.
The proteasome cuts this protein into pieces, which then get placed on Major histocompatibility complexes (MHC).
Every cell with a nucleus (The cell core with DNA) has MHC 1. When MHC 1 presents a viral protein piece it will get instructed by CD8 T cells to destroy itself.
Some immune cells also have MHC 2. CD4 T cells can recognize MHC 2 and start an immune reaction.
It is a very simple mechanism. There will be no long lasting left overs as mRNA and the lipid nanoparticle (a super tiny fatty droplet that protects the mRNA) degrade very quickly. Once the mRNA is gone the whole spike protein production process stops.
