The same reason it makes sense to have potential greater than 1 V, current greater than 1 A, a gain greater than 1 dB, an acceleration greater than 1 g, etc. Conductance is NOT a ratio.

Good answer. The OP doesn't understand that he is framing his question predicated on zero to one unit of measurement of conductance, resistance, current and voltage.

Now in terms of those imaginary ratios that you get in electrical engineering, you're going to have to settle with a lot less for what you want to realize.
