i dont really know whats going on with this board, since 2020 half of the threads are about race and iq, covid or vaccinations without actual scientific discussions but just soijack spamming endlessly. you cant say anything about it either or the thread breaks down into chaos. its like a neverending raid

Yeah it's pretty strange. I came here often in 2018 and just starting browsing again recently. There were Khan academy threads and whatnot, lots of physics threads, pure maths etc but this is beyond hopeless at this point. Retarded fucks who abide by the status quo thinking they're a part of some radical counter culture using nothing but identity politics to argue their points are a pervasive force like the capitalist economy itself driving these very political divisions

/sci/ seems to know nothing about philosophy and is in general too narrow minded. The book is good in that it packs a lot of info in a single volume and is reasonably readable. I trust Aaronson more than Penrose in matters of consciousness and analytic philosophy of mind. I still think continental approaches are interesting and valuable.

I can't speak for all of /sci/, but I'm not. That book filtered me. Penrose reckons that you can start the book with no knowledge of maths and he'll teach you what you need to know, but he's actually really bad at explaining most of the concepts to someone who doesn't understand them already.
