HF is "toxic" because it contains a lot of H+ ions, not because HF itself is a dangerous molecule. straight fluoride doesn't have these ions.

Nah, it's the fluoride ion. H+ just attacks whatever is close by. F- travels and dissolves your bones and puts it into your heart or some nonsense.
