Why can't you build missiles that dodge other missiles? Why do missile defense systems even work?

Also any control engineers know what kind of controllers that these defense missiles use? Surely not just PIDs?

because gravity works the same way for everyone and you can't conceal it. Once a missile's kinematic parameters are known, knowing its trajectory is a matter of calculation. Literal 9th grade physics.

because it would be dumb. That would mean it would need to have an extra stage. Fuel requirements are already tight, your genius move would only make things work. Usually rockets avoid defense systems by using fake heat signatures. At least read about ICBMs a little before starting the thread, OP...

how is it going to both change its trajectory at any given point in its flight and be able to land on target? that would be a very expensive missile. id bet you could just fire 10 dumber missiles for the price of that 1 and hit your target without worry.

spamming enough missiles to overwhelm the defense systems is a more reasonable strategy.
some of the avionics weight on missiles with evasive capability could be saved if the missiles had an AWACS escort to identify defense missiles.

OP said missiles, not ballistic missiles.
The answer is that you absolutely can, but that it is best if you use nuclear propulsion, which is probably illegal by some treaty. But I think Russia made one anyway.
