You do a few chores every hour or two, but those are quick, easy, and then you go back to chilling. Occasionally it gets very serious very quickly and you have to act without hesitation, but if you're smart and attentive you can minimize those serious situations by a lot.
I don't really want to get into specifics, but suffice it to say, it pays the bills and it makes the world a better place. And I can read textbooks/watch youtube videos while working which is a plus lol.
Also, as much as I rag on blue states, mine is actually pretty good and they are very good about funding programs like these which I am a firm believer in (personal investment aside).
Like I said, there is an absolute dearth of respite care workers for the disabled. Most people who go into this field are women who slept their way through highschool and think it's only the good times and that they'll get praise for doing it. A couple bad days later and they get washed out once they realize nobody will praise you for it. If you've ever seen those videos of that guy who helps disabled children you may understand (I don't remember his name, but he looks almost artificially attractive and has the weirdest smile). People always rag on him and say "oh he must be a pervert or something, there's no way somebody would be that selfless", but I totally get it. These people have nobody else and you can improve their lives so much that it's really worth it.
I know this is unrelated to the thread topic, but hey maybe look into it (look up respite care work). A lot of care facilities have closed because of the holocough and lots of parents/guardians are desperate because now their disabled children/adults are home all day and need constant supervision. The requirements vary by state, so definitely do some research.
