I go through Brown's CSCI0190 course which is accelerated CS and yes you as '27' can easily do it and it's not like any other course. You MODEL things using a pure functional language like mutable arrays.

Take the AI curriculum too, stats it easy esp if you read Principles of Applied Statistics by Cox/Donnelly

You can learn all your life.

Just a few little questions
>how many hours do you learn each day?
>what material do you use to learn?
>do you struggle with the language or math?
If you learn less than 10 hours a day, don't use top tier scientific books, and don't fix your problems, you won't improve. Not your age is holding you back, it's your mentality.

I thought this too as I aged until I realized that thinking is just like working out. It's a slow process but give it a year of exposing your mind to new topics and digesting complex ideas and you'll feel smarter.

You just need to work harder to maintain health and energy. I already learned this at 22 when I started getting brain fog. Fixing diet and lifestyle fixed my brain. You could have systemic inflammation. Try fasting, intermittent fasting, cut out gluten, grains and dairy for a while.

good im sick and tired of people flooding the already over saturated programming market
i would really really like to make programming impossible to anyone that cant do real analysis or create some programs that substitute 99.99% of "programmers" so the get rich easy and guaranteed green pasture dries up for the code monkeys and they go become janitors or so other thing

This, the brain needs to be worked out. You need to build synapses and maintain them, otherwise they atrophy. Similar to muscle mass. If you lift for a few years you'll get strong. If you then stop, within a few months your performance will drop drastically. People finish college and stop studying, they work the same job that is repetative and the brain gets used to that. But it can't think critically and learn new things. If you pick up learning and do it consistently, it will get easier and easier to learn.

People will tell you age is irrelevant and you can learn to be a world class mathematician at 50 but you have to remember these are the same people who tell you IQ/intelligence doesn't matter and anyone can achieve the same success if they put in the effort. It's just feelgood nonsense that has no basis in reality. Your fluid intelligence has already noticeably dropped by age 25-30 so it makes sense the speed at which you learn new things would drop with it. But that's not even the biggest factor, it's the fact that your brain is done developing and loses the ability to quickly and majorly restructure itself. Compare outcomes in brain injuries and stroke victim patients under 30 vs over 30

but now I just look at theorems, nod my head, and when I try to prove anything my mind is completely blank and cant even recall definitions

Same, 25 years old and started studying math again. I feel that I can actually understand things this time around. In the past I just memorized things without having a clue of how they worked and forgot them straight after the tests. I struggled hard during hard school and never managed to do a proof on my own but now things seems to "click" naturally and I am able to progress without too much trouble. Started programming as well and I am having fun with it.

I'm 37 and these past few years I've learnt functional programming, how to play the piano, the Chinese language, machine learning fundamentals, read many foundational works of philosophy I'd been putting off, and completely reversed my political views.

The brain does age but not significantly until you're fucking 50 or something. Even then if you maintain good health you can maintain mental acuity, my dad is still sharper than me at 60. Just optimize your health and energy levels by any means necessary (definitely don't eat a Standard American Diet, and do exercise, for a start. If you have brain fog then start researching your symptoms and tackle the root cause.) You do NOT get mentally slower at fucking 27 unless you've got some health issue going on that you may be unaware of.

The only solution is to go for "bare metal " languages like C and assembly, best would be to go for transistor level engineering of computer systems, these areas will never get saturated, because the massive complexity in these will always ensure that the low IQ python ape horde won't ever be able to threaten your job.

Former embedded software engineer doing backend work (k8s, docker, golang), those jobs suck for pay and skill development, and honestly aren't any more complex than keeping track of a microservices architecture in your head. You stagnate in a Boomer company when you could be growing with good, quality, engineers around your age and making 2-3x the pay.

Bro I worked in a warehouse until I was 26,went to community College for free and got hired through an internship after like 18 months of community College, never even graduated and I now make like 10 times what I made before, and I get constant recruiting calls for higher paying jobs, granted I'm semi intelligent but it's not too late,
When I was interning I was able to interact with multiple companies and the ceos (startup guys) and long term investors all told me that they preferred being able to hire older candidates (like late 20s)
