Why did they diverge from lunar missions to a fat space station in low earth orbit?

US space force being a thing and them getting btfod in ISS. They dont wanna be late in communications and area denial.
Plus now that NASA got missions going on moon outsourced to private companies they would like to pivot. China usually doesn't prefer to compete directly but finds empty markets and opportunities to be the top dog by default. Since there is still no plans about ISS and any other plans for a space station, it's the new moon for them.

They're not done harvesting Africa yet. Once their dominion over that wretched continent and its resources is absolute, then there'll be a massive Chinese space push, and it won't be limited to Luna.
