He hurt himself pretty badly with some overheated butter. There's no reason he should be injured, he's not some internet-educated unqualified slob. He follows reasonable safety practices and when he doesn't have someone around who can keep an eye on him he avoids doing risky experiments.

He got somewhat influenced himself by Michael Reeves. Pre-house burning down his stuff was pretty good. Then it got whackier to deal with the lack of anything to make stable videos but they were still ok and engineering related. Then he started hanging out with Michael Reeves and went full blown whacky engineering. When Michael moved out the engineering part mostly disappeared.
At least that's my perspective as someone who started watching him when I started uni in 2015.

In my opinion Cody is wasting his time with the Mars base LARP.
