To truly be efficient you need to master three things.
>Focus
Full 3-4 hour focus sessions. Start with 1-2 if that's too much at first.
No pomodoro, no breaks, no distractions, phone silent, 4chan closed, ect.
>Timing
You're more efficient at learning the first 4 hours after you awake and 4 hours before you go to bed.
Before exercise for better short term performance.
After exercise for recall/long term memory.
Being in a state of hunger while learning/working will boost performance.
>Relaxation
I cannot stress this one enough, but relaxation is key if you want to "spend as much time doing useful stuff" you need to balance it with well planned out and deep relaxation. It's much better to spend 8 hours at 100% efficiency than 16 at 40%.
The brain needs time to efficiently reorganize/prune/create the synapses, something it's much better at in doing in a relaxed state.
8-9 hours sleep in a pitch black room with as little light as possible for 1-2 hours before bed.
30 minute midday nap, ideally after you've done a 4 hour focus session.
Meditation, even 10 minutes a day will help, again ideally after or before studying. 1 hour of meditation is = to full day of tropical beach vacation, it's incredibly useful for relaxation.
Exercise can be added in here too, walks are good but if you want to be as efficient as possible then you just need 15-30 minutes of high intensity cardio daily.
