Hey /sci/, retard here. I have a hypothetical I want to share along with some possible answers at the end. I'll format it as a timeline so it seems a bit more explicit.

1. A man purchases a coffee for $5. He hands the exact change over to the server to complete the transaction.
2. As the server is completing the transaction, the man who bought the coffee hands the server another $20 in order to receive some change.
3. The server then thinks "I will no longer need this original $5" and hands back the original $5 to the man along with another $10, under the impression this is his $15 change.
4. The man argues that he should get $20 change, not $15, as he gave the server $25, not $20.
5. The server challenges this and argues that the original $5 was ignored and solely relied on the $20 for the transaction and thus subtracted 5 from 20 to give him $15 change in total.

Answers:
A: the man is right and should get $20 change, not $15.
B: the server is right and the man should get $15 change, not $20.
