The true underlying issue is something more basic and pre-existing, else someone could not be led down such a winding road of false awakening. More likely it's an outlet, a comfortable space within a greater labyrinth, like any fantasy world where you detach from reality to shield yourself from the pain. It's a desire to be everythign and nothing, to be free, as marble and sculptor, a desire to be as a God, the divine androgyne. Though I doubt they have the insight or will to recognize this, much less admit it. Hence why they must see themselves as brave and empowered, they know they're too weak to accept a truth they have run away from. It's projection and doublethink, because they aren't actually one singular person in their mind. The persona was created or externalized, the greater self, the realer self, went to sleep. Or was malformed to start, which is a matter of childhood trauma and deprivation and so on.
