theoretical CS is a fun field. its too bad that for undergrads its locked behind a bunch of programming BS, and piss easy architecture/organization classes and everything is mathphobic. as a math major if you are doing well in school you can probably get the best that a CS undergrad has to offer by just petitioning to take their upper div algorithms class.

Like >>13111322 said, Chicago holds more international prestige than Dartmouth or Brown. Quality has much more to do with specific fields rather than universities, as Chicago tops any Ivy in economics but is not as good as Yale in law or Princeton in physics.

If you're an undergrad, all American universities will be shit either way. Just focus on not wasting unnecessary amounts of money on a school just because of a fancy name.

ha. UTK was my undergrad, I'm wrapping up an EE PhD at Duke. had a brother who went to UoC and got some bullshit humanities degree that wasn't worth the paper it was printed on. he had to go back to UoC for a masters in CS and went to work for FAANG.

UTK is nice because ORNL is next door. also, the physics department at UTK is unexpectedly good because they focus on physics education. CS at UTK is a fucking joke, though

+1. I went to a state school and somehow clawed my way into a top 10 after that. I enjoy the fact that I have literally no debt. Got some basic research experience in undergrad. Time in between undergrad and grad was supplemented by intense self-study and a very strong research statement. Now slightly older and way richer than my classmates, feels good man.
