How come there were no birds that managed to reach the great size of their relatives such as the gigantoraptor? Not even the terror birds.

I suspect flight maid them have less need for excessive body mass. When your ground-based prey can only move in two dimensions and you can fly in 3, you already have a natural advantage. Also, heavy = bad for flying.

my personal theory is dinosaurs had sophisticated nesting strategies that were lost after birds came about, and that lack of hands, tails and toothed jaws put them at a big disadvantage compared to mammals.
