here’s a reminder of physics for you guys. the concept of renormalizability in physics reflects the fact that theories which require renormalization are effective field theories. for example, the fact that the standard model of particle physics is a theory where coupling constants and dressed masses follow a renormalization group flow is an indicator that the standard model is a low-energy limit of some other more fundamental theory. this is a fact—the standard model is known to be a an approximation to another more fundamental theory. likewise, general relativity is nonrenormalizable meaning that it requires a generalization in order to be consistent with the rest of physics in a UV completion.
