1) It is possible to be way off in scores on two separate iq tests, but it would be a statistical abnormality. You most see the iq test as a tool that tries to approximate your iq and that they have a margin of error. The most likely scenario in this case would be that your true iq score is around 110, your first IQ test overvalued your iq and the second one under tested your true iq.

2) IQ as a construct is very stable throughout adult life (unless you got some massive brain injuries) but, this is not as true for children growing up into adulthood. IQ can change somewhat while children reach adulthood.

3) the standard deviation of IQ tests are not always the same, although in most cases set to 15. which means having a score of 123 in one test can translate to less on another.

4) tests administered by a psychologist are pretty reliable. Different IQ tests are intercorrelated and test halves within IQ tests are correlated to ensure consistent results.

Did i get dumber throughout the years or am i just expecting too much from myself based on old iq test results and putting in too little effort because of it? I'm diagnosed with dysthymia if that matters (not taking any meds for it). Didn't have an early puberty either.

Dont worry about it. IQ literally does not matter.
I was evaluated several times when I was a child because my mother was also an IQ obsessed twat. Over several IQ tests I averaged 130. I was a C student through school, played tons of WoW and went to community college. I passed the MENSA exam and was trolled into paying my part time dollar general money to join Mensa.
My SAT was 680 math, 650 reading, and around the same for the essay. Thats only top 25% I'm sure.
I joined the military, got 130 on the ASVAB which correlates to the 130 to 140 range on my previous tests. I literally clean bilges and scrub up oil for sixteen hours a day as an ELT nuke on a sub. A glorified poolboy.
THE most important factor that determines your success which overcomes IQ significantly, is hardwork/dedication/focus. If you are at or above the average, you will succeed at nearly every job available to human beings if you are a hard worker. Yes, you can be the captain of a nuclear submarine or an astronaut. Just work hard.
The second most important thing is sociability; nobody wants to work with an asshole or an autist(unless they're funny to be around)

It's called being an early bloomer, early IQ scores are predictive of later IQ scores but not nessecarily.

I got 121 at 19, after scoring at 105 when I was a child, but I had such issues with autism that the way the earlier test was designed might have been an underestimate. Due to cognitive decline I'm probably around 115 now but at least my crystallised intelligence hasn't fallen off a cliff yet.

The anon saying that you did bad is just an autist. IQ tests are also normalized to the age group you are scored with, so it may mean that you just didn't improve much over time. Moral: it feels good when the tests say nice things about you, but it's a small part of how your life turns out.

Smart people fuck up all the time. Average people often do great by simply being responsible or thinking about an overall life strategy. What I do now does not, in any way, require a high IQ. Believing I was smart probably just got in the way of realistically thinking about what a guy with my psychology needs to succeed. Am I even smart? Yes. But in some ways I have been very dumb.

Just think about what kind of work suits you, and apply yourself to it.

That's a bit disingenuous, since both professions require you to score above a certain level in an aptitude (ASVAB or something else) test. You will never become a submarine captain, let alone an officer in the navy, without a top-tier ASVAB result.
