The explanation for the nerve in all tetrapods is the recurrent larygneal nerve wrapped itself up in fish arteries and then extended with the neck as the heart stayed in the same place.
But fish don't have voiceboxes/larynxs.
So why would that happen if fish don't have larynxs? What was the nerve attached to that required it to keep extending as the neck came about?
Was the nerve just hanging out with its artery frens, not doing anything, and decided it would be cool to randomly start migrating to the neck area and attach to the larynx that didn't even exist yet?
