What does /sci/ think of soviet math text books?

Soviet text books are fairly popular at my university (I'm a math major). Have you read any of these books? Which are the best ones?

Piskunov was nice, Spivak rubbed me the wrong way for a while when I was starting so my uncle told me to give this book a read. I started liking Spivak after understanding limits and series better though.

Linear Algebra by Shilov is one of my favorite texts

I learned my precalculus from Gelfand, and they were pretty good.

Also, this. Shilov is slightly better than H&K and provides more pure maths examples while allowing you to learn how to compute.

Soviets hate esotericism so they are solid books.

But the quality is also pure soviet (see automanufacturer Lada).

I have a physical copy of Piskunov's calc that I inherited from my grandfather.
It's without a doubt the best calculus book out there. Its insanely insanely good even if his notation is sometimes weird.

Not that great, soviet approach to higher subjects was when you start learning a subject be it calculus during first lesson or first lecture you were expected to already have atleast intermediate knowledgde and understanding of the subject, the books are very dense ans compacted with theory, reflect that, there is little of any kind of explanation given because you have to know the subject before you even start learning from the book.

I think they try to fit too much in their books. They're nice for a quick refresher and grinding exercises but that's about it.

I thought one could read Tao along with Spivak. Do Judson instead of Pinter. Add Callahan to Apostol 2.

in my room and was thinking about the book
