But the problem is there's too few good colleges and too much people. For every glasses wearer there's someone who got the same score with good vision.

And from what I gathered there's some underlying reasons and assumptions (ie people who wear glasses have bad habits like not resting often enough/exercising in between study sessions). It's no different from how the ivy league schools here want students who participate in extracurricular activities and sports, not because they want jocks but because they want someone who can handle the work load and still be 'well rounded' and healthy

They're not dumb, but what's telling is that cheating on the standardized tests is so rampant that if cheaters get caught then teachers are forced to let them continue anyway under political pressure.

So yeah you need the explicit pedigree to attend a good uni there.

But all in all I'd say it's probably not much different than the Old Money/waspy types who can get into Harvard relatively easily here in the states. And obviously if your parents are college educated that's a huge leg up for you. China just changed it from a de facto standard to de juro standard
