Looking for the best books on Yang-Mills theory,

And the Navier-Stokes theorem.

What are the best books about these topics? Historical and non-mathematic heavy books are acceptable.

Serious textbook like ones? I dunno. What I do know is that Baez's Gravity, gauge theory and knots is pretty nice 'casual' book. It still has the math you need but is more discursive.

Just curious, but those are pretty distinct fields no? Is there some application you're thinking of that involves both?

For Yang-Mills, any book on quantum field theory should at least touch on the subject. Something that focuses more on QCD might give more insight, if that's what you want.

Honestly, my QFT course was just course notes so I'm not sure the state of QFT textbooks. Weinberg is a classic text (I'm fairly sure this is still true), although Yang-Mills is only discussed in the second volume. So depending on your background you may need to read the first. Easy to find the books online too, which is a plus.

When it comes to Yang-Mills, most introductory/comprehensive QFT books published after the 70s should have some information on it. Peskin and Schroeder was the required reading for my course and they dedicate several chapters to non-abelian gauge theory. Schwartz seems to have a more entry-level but briefer discussion on it.

I'm also curious as to what the relation between this and Navier-Stokes is. An unintelligent guess of mine is something perhaps to do with some Landau theory? If the threads still up later I'll post some more resources; I'm interested to see what other anons bring up.

I'm guessing it's because they're both millennium prize problems and OP is a highschooler (or worse, a CS major) grossly overestimating his skill set.
