The usual narrative was always that men value attractiveness in women more than women value it in men. However, with all these statistics of online dating floating around the Internet saying that girls find the vast majority of guys unattractive, I started to doubt that.
So, to whom do looks matter more when choosing a potential partner?

Looks are the primary criterion for both sexes, everything else is just tacked on. What used to be the case was that women would settle for men they find physically repulsive, whereas most men would be able to fuck most women no problem.

what matters is that they feel the man stands out and money and success is a natural way to check that
willingness to commit is another
natural selection didn't left women any choices but to pick the strongest/smartest man regardless of the look
however maybe attractive look is correlated with good genes and standing out and being wealthy, but not always
a woman will not pick a good looking guy that is a total mess in order to settle with long term

You're confusing a lot of stuff here. Men select for fertility while women select for genetic quality. neither can be accurately described by "looks" alone, though we approximate these criteria using looks.

I think women are more likely to be swayed by other factors than men. In other words, a woman may marry an old ugly fart if he's rich and successful, but men don't tend to care as much about a woman's accomplishments. So you may not need great looks as a guy, but you need something going for you. Women don't want to marry below their level any more than a man does.
