Game theory isn't necessarily about predicting human decision making, it's the idealized study of optimal strategy for rational agents. Moreover, if you look at evolutionary game theory, it makes no assumptions of rationality. In contexts where we are using game theory to analyze actual human behavior, it can still provide us valuable information by helping us identify specific areas where agents do fall short of ideal rationality.
Also, game theory is by no means outdated. It's a huge area of research in economics, computer science, and analytic philosophy.
