>>13083757>>13083951>muh timeWe've been able to consistently measure hours since Roman times, and it's been a standard time unit that's worked pretty well since forever. There's no reason to replace it. Romans loved dividing stuff by 12 because of their numerology, but it doesn't matter, you're missing the point of the metric system if you think it's about dividing everything by ten - but we already know that Americans miss the point of the metric system, so no surprise there.
Volume, weight and length conversely are things that we've been only able to measure dependably for a couple of centuries, and there was no standard until not long ago. As a matter of fact, until recently, it was hard to consistently make objects of the same length. So we just used body parts for simplicity. Inches are supposed to be thumbs. No need to explain feet. These were all Roman units, so they were divided in 12. Originally, an ounce was 1/12th of a pound. It was a consistent system, unlike the bunch of inconsistent units Americans have now.
Switching to metric is about having, first and foremost, a standard, but also consistency and units that converse (metres and litres have a relationship, unlike feet and gallons - which doesn't apply to time incidentally, another reason why there's no need to revamp time units). Americans don't like it because they think universal standards are unpatriotic, not realizing they're using something reminiscent of Roman measurement units, which were itself a standard imposed to replace local national measurement units. Also, Americans only want standards they created themselves, they hate not taking the credit for everything... to this day they still unironically believe they invented the airplane lmao...
