BTC/ETH evidently consume a considerable amount of energy and hardware through mining. It's not much compared to all our other bullshit, though. The media like blathering on about it at the moment, for whatever reason. Perhaps in the future it will become a serious problem, but who knows?

Crypto is not bad for the environment, CO2 is. You can have cryptos that need no mining, and mining that does not pollute. Actual earth mining is damaging, as well as youtube/facebook server farms, but illiterate no coiner have no reason to attack those.

prolly uses more energy than traditional banking/fiat, hard to say since traditional banking also needs energy for physical and internet security, storing money, manufacturing money and other stuff.
no reason to worry since crypto is going to have its head cut off once it becomes big enough that it threatens central banking

This is what I think is behind the avalanche of FUD going on right now. It's going to be banned but it needs to appeal to some people first and they're going with climate. Proof of work does look like a problem at least since that does waste a lot of electricity.

none. crypto runs on energy, not on co2. all you're seeing is massive propaganda, from all side of the spectrum. one side have interest in seeing crypto succeed. one other have no interest because crypto basically means being able to run a financial system the CS way with no third parties.

it does threaten central banking and thinking you can ban this is not understanding what p2p means. you can't get rid of that. banks have to deal with it. people are just too used to have a centrally planned system. many countries tried to ban it, with no success. there's too much money at stake and automation is one key point.

Yes, they consume huge amounts of electricity and contribute to chip shortages. If the energy was all nuclear then it wouldn't matter, but most of bitcoin mining happens in China so 100% coal.

they can simply ban buying crypto and crypto buying platforms. if you can't put your legitimate money in crypto or use it in real life then it's useless, p2p doesn't matter, your salary, inheritance, etc all use central banking currency

per transaction banking uses less energy but banks uses energy for other stuff that crypto doesn't

Despite being p2p the larger networks are centralized and would be torn apart if they were banned. Most of Bitcoin is mined in China and if it's banned, that's the end of that.

if one country ban this technology, some other will use it to their advantage. look at the price of 1 btc vs 1 dollar. btc is an extremely strong currency that is just starting. banning their use at this point will just give major disadvantages to who does that. whether they like it or not, the usa and the eu is competing against bitcoin.

what causes it to increase in energy use is that if the price grows, more miners come because it's more profitable to mine
at one point it will stop because bitcoin can't cost infinity
it will plateau
still infinitely more efficient than banking considering all you can develop on top
