I have a biology question about transgender people and I don't want to go on /pol/ or /lgbt/ because they're obviously going to be biased either way.
Are hormones literally the only thing that makes someone male or female?
Like if there was a person who was male in the womb, but even in the womb and throughout their entire life until like 30, you gave them female HRT, would they grow up to look and be as if they were born cis female? Like in the brain and everything?
I know gender specific hormones have an effect on cells, but is there anything else that is doing this? Like in a cis male, is there anything besides testosterone making that person male?
Like in a cis male, if you removed testosterone and replaced it with estrogen, wouldn't the cells crave testosterone and malfunction because he has XY chromosomes?
I mean like what information is even in X and Y and why is it needed?
FTM trans people don't even have Y chromosome. How does their body even know what to do with the testosterone they take?
Sorry if I can't explain this well
