Chemistry is just applied physics. I disagree with your pool analogy. Physics tells us a lot about the fundamentals of the universe, but it doesn't actually describe ways in which those effect the tangible world. That's why chem is so cool. Its physical principles applied onto a visible (or at least observable) canvas.

Pretty impressive considering vitamin B12 is an organometallic complex with a giant metal in the middle of it. Retard.

Amazing how the organic bragging rights is always "I made a complex found in nature and it only took me 93 steps" and in this case turns out its organometallics, which is inorganic chemistry playing pretend. I love organometallics. Its what I do research in. Great field.

well first of all you need to make a culture of either ergot, or other argotamide alkaloid containing fungi
you distill the lysergic acid (the precursor) by playing around with pH and solvants, evaporating with a vacuum, etc
After you get lysergic acid crystals
>grab around 50g of it and dissolve it on acetonitrile and trifluoroacetic acid, on a cool bath
>be sure to be working with completely dry reagants, atmosphere and be in a dark room
>prepare a solution of acetonitrile and diethylamine
>let the previous solution out of the cold bath and let it warm up to room temperature
>add the lysergic acid solution to the diethylamine solution
>let it sit for 2 or 3 hours in complete darkness
>evaporate the acetonitrile (under a vacuum, dont heat it up)
>dissolve the newly formed LSD with chloroform, and ice water
>separate the layers, take the chloroform layer
>evaporate the chloroform
you now have LSD

Can't Chemists do both? Also, heard that wet chemistry is effectively dead in industry and most of is done in an automated process. So computational is more common. True or false?

not compchemists lmao. not predictively, that is. there are some that study dynamics.

half true. job prospects aren't great, but automated stuff tends to be trash. Still need a real chemist to run shit in person, do unusual rxns that don't automate well to get that one atom right where the model says it needs to be.
If automation becomes a serious thing, it won't take over the industry. more likely, they'll just automate the boring/predictable bits and leave the interesting reactions/research to people.

I do some of both, but mainly I just use DFT to find HOMO-LUMO gaps and predict spectra. I find that usually when people want computations they collaborate with a fully computational group or vice versa.

Since this thread seems to be turning into a /cg/ replacement:
Am I missing anything or would it be entirely possible to create recombinant bacteria/yeast that biosynthetize the epic Joe Rogan droog? It's got one of the simplest pathways out there, and all you'd need to do is to get an organism that expresses AADC and INMT. Culture it in a liquid medium rich with Tryptophan and extract DMT via a simple acid-base extraction.
This could potentially be much more cost-efficient than getting it from acacia trees or some shit.
