After a certain point it is no longer that clear who is benefiting more in a symbiotic relationship. Dogs could argue that they are getting the better end of the deal if they bothered to evolve vocal communication comprehensible to us.
And over long enough periods parasitic relationships become less and less one-sided as parasites experience selective pressures too, either directly or by proxy. After all, we do like cats a lot and obsessively control their lives on every level including reproduction just so we can daww at them.
