Compressing Water

What would happen if you just compressed water to ridiculously large degrees? Say you have box containing 1m^2 of room temperature water. Assuming the box is unbreakable, a perfect insulator, and can resize at will, what happens if it just keeps getting smaller? Eventually it would have to collapse into a black hole sure, but what about the steps before that? Would it ignite into some weird ass sun for a bit?
