Because they think of it as "the biggest number" instead of the lack of finiteness. There are infinitely many natural numbers: no, it's not that there are infinity of them (in the sense that there can be 5 of something), it's just that you could never finish counting them in the first place. It's actually a pretty unremarkable concept, and I think what gets normans stuck is they think it's so mystical, and start thinking of muh bajillion stars in de uniberse :DDD

isn't the time dimension infinite ?

I know there are theories out there about time stopping but it's more of there not being an "observer"

like the old question of "if a tree falls in the forest and nobody is around to see it"

and I would presume that time does exist since there is an upper limit to how fast one can perceive time and that is the speed of light

Imagine our universe is in loop with 1 tittilion years cycle. Then you can say time end at 1 tittilion year, because longer than that its become meaningless, as you cant know wether its 2020 or 1 tittilion + 2020
