Just take an example triangle with simple numbers for example set the length
AB = 15
BC = 18
then you can easily calculate that
AREA (A,B,C) = 18 * 12 / 2 = 12 * 9
(The height is easy to see here since it's a scaled 3-4-5 triangle)

AD = (4/3) * AB = 20
DE = (4/3) * BC = 24
AREA (A,D,E) = 24 * 16 / 2 = 12 * 16
(Again a 3-4-5 triangle scaled)

To add on, these are obviously the easy questions retards. I googled "hard sat problem" and got this.
Still somewhat easy, to be honest. But at least there's some challenge. Area of the entire quarter circle is obviously 9pi. Answer is obviously 9pi-(AB*BC/2). You get that AB + BC = 8. I'm sure there's some geometric law that lets you draw a relation between AB+BC and AB*BC, I just forgot it as well.
SAT is 80% basic geometry and algebra memorization and 20% basic iq test.

-> ab = 4 - sqrt(2)
-> bc = 4 + sqrt(2)

Area = 9pi - (4-sqrt(2))(4+sqrt(2))/2 = 9pi - 7

Now, to answer the question
Perimeter = 3pi + 12 - ab - bc + ac = 3pi + 4 + ac = 3pi + 10
They should've asked for the area

I've tutored multiple high schoolers for it, a lot of the pitfalls these kids fall into is not reading the directions and just solving what they think it would be asking for. And to be honest my math sat score was shit only 690 but I was a drugged out teenager that didnt show up to half of my sophomore year

There's a number of high level items on both the subject test and the standard math subtest on the general exam. Not extremely high level items, but so that less than 1% acquire a perfect score. This is done by having a test with a high number of items (to prey upon inconsistency or distraction) and adding increasing ambiguity to the question being posed. Such as relying on induction instead of deduction. These are both shady tactics to increase test difficulty, but they are probably both related to aspects of IQ or whatever cognitive / skill trait they are trying to measure. The majority of the items are easy to gratify normie narcissism, modern American education tries very hard to avoid fostering a competitive environment at all levels. So differentiation in ability between average and high skill level occurs in a fewer number of items (and is probably somewhat less accurate). The overall ceiling is also lower so that ability well above the top 1% is not measured (for the same reason, avoid a competitive atmosphere)

Standardized testing is a fucking industry. Constantly new books, no recycled questions, tutors charge parents $50 an hour just to fucking get their kid to know this stupid test, and all the questions are relatively okay but not certainly impossible, but they become more difficult given the fucking stupid time constraints you're under. You need to plan things like research well in advance typically, often a semester in advance but sometimes you can land things on short notice depending on your environment. And you should have been building relationships with professors early on, especially if you've had multiple classes with a common professor. And participating in research goes hand in hand with networking for gradschool. Not sure if 2 semester is enough time to do much of significance, I am a fellow bum and am not even bothering applying to gradschool for this reason.

it is easy. american education is terrible. if you have a good class you will at least get good instruction but it will be like a lecture a day on a new topic and 50% of them are just tedious nonsense that is repeating the last topic. most serious students are taking 4 other subjects with nightly homework so they quickly just start doing the minimum in math and just grinding out the constant drills and memorizing equations for the test. american education isn't a system for instilling knowledge, it is for whittling down the candidates for white collar jobs with a constant stream of bullshit and busywork that you either overcome or collapse beneath.
