>>13043093Turtle obesity isn't much of problem in the wild but can be in captivity when they're overfed and have little reason to be active, especially if kept in a small enclosure. An obese turtle with too much stored fat can have a difficult time pulling its extremities inside its shell.
One of the funniest things I've seen a turtle do when be harassed was first pull in it back legs, and then when scared, pulled in it's head and front legs but because the turtle was fat, it's back legs rapidly pushed out of its shell. The poor thing couldn't keep its head and all four legs inside its shell at the same time. In the wild, this would be a dangerous situation leaving them open to attack but in captivity it just meant it was time for the turtle to go on a diet.
